These guidelines are designed to assist the Parent Volunteer Association (PVA) in understanding its purpose and scope of support within the school community.

ROLE OF THE PARENT VOLUNTEER ASSOCIATION

  • Encourage and welcome parents’ involvement in their individual children’s lives, education, class, and school. (e.g.: field trip helper)

  • Recruit volunteers and coordinate volunteer efforts to staff PVA functions and assist with school programs
  • Help organize activities for school spirit promotion (e.g. Halloween parade, Chinese New Year Celebration, etc.)
The Parent Volunteer Association (PVA) does NOT

  • Force parents to participate in PVA and/or school activities. Have any special privilege over others.
  • Set policy regarding school programs, or utilize school facilities without prior approval from the Director.

Additionally, the PVA Rep. should meet regularly with the school management team to plan ahead and to reflect on success of past activities.
